REQUIREMENTS FOR IFOMT MEMBERSHIP

Thank you for your interest in Membership of IFOMT.  If you wish to obtain full membership, Article III of the Federation's Constitution regarding Member Organisations lists the requirements as follows:

· Consists only of Physical Therapists who have passed their OMT examination which is recognised by the Federation.
· All members of the Manual Therapy Organisation must belong to their parent body Physiotherapy Association, which is a Member Organisation of the World Confederation of Physiotherapists (WCPT).
· The group should be conducting or recognising a postgraduate OMT education that complies with the Federation's Educational Standards.
· The group shall be the one voting on IFOMT matters within their organisation.
· The group shall elect a delegate to represent them within IFOMT.
· The group shall be recognised by their WCPT Member Organisation as the organisation representing that country on IFOMT matters.
· The group shall represent all eligible OMTs and not just one area, group or institution.
· The Member Organisation may be:
- A subsection of the parent body
- A single group or organisation
- An Umbrella organisation consisting of various manual therapy groups within one country

In summary:
How this group is organised is a National matter provided it complies with these requirements.  Various countries will adopt different solutions to facilitate the representation of all eligible OMTs.
If there is a mixed group, those who have attained the IFOMT educational standard are defined as the group dealing with IFOMT matters and is the Member Organisation.  This Member Organisation must be identifiable and recognised by the parent body as the organisation representing OMT on IFOMT matters in that country.

Before applying for membership, an orthopaedic manipulative therapy group, consisting only of registered Physical Therapists, can apply to be a "Registered Interest Group" by completing the application form available from the Secretariat of the Federation.
